How to Use Healing Touch to Relieve Back Pain

How to Use Healing Touch to Relieve Back Pain

Healing Touch is an energy-based intervention frequently used to relieve pain. Indeed, this alternative treatment has been proved to be effective for chronic back pain with relief usually occurring within 10 to 20 minutes. Learn to help someone you love by following the steps below.

1

Use a pain scale to assess your client's pain level before and after treatment. A simple number scale from 0 (no pain) to 10 (worst pain imaginable) will provide a subjective measure of relief and healing.

2

Prepare for treatment by centering yourself and becoming in tune with your client. Stand behind your client and visualize energy being pulled up from the earth through your spine and spreading throughout your body. When you feel the calm flow of energy, proceed to the next step.

3

Begin by having your client lie face down on a table or flat surface. Scan your client's energy field with the palms of your hands moving over their body. Take note of any unusual sensations in the energy field (sluggish, heavy, tingling, hot, throbbing or cool) while scanning.

4

Clear the painful area by brushing both hands down and away from the body in smooth continuous strokes until relief is felt. One common method is to move the hands down and out as though you are drawing a
Christmas
tree.

5

Use the Pain Drain technique. If the pain persists, place your left hand on or over the painful area with your right held down and away from the body. Hold the position until your client feels relief or you feel the back free of congestion. Switch hands placing your right hand on or over the problem area with your left hand held in the air. Imagine healing energy flowing down the left and right arms and into the area of concern.

6

Reassess your client's energy field by rescanning your client and rechecking for unusual sensations. The area in the back should now feel like the rest of their energy field.

7

Evaluate your client's healing experience noting any changes in pain, tension, breathing or skin color. Ask them for feedback.
